Materials and what they mean
Hand-woven PE wicker over a rustproof frame is the most common construction here, and it holds up to sun without fading the way natural rattan does. Powder-coated aluminum weighs less and will not rust, which suits a poolside or a coastal yard. Acacia wood brings warmth and needs occasional oiling to keep its color.
Sets with fire features
A propane fire pit table doubles as a coffee table when covered, so the set works in daylight and after dark without a separate piece taking up space. Check the BTU rating. Higher output means more usable warmth on a cold evening, not just a bigger flame.
Sizing a set
Count seats against how you actually entertain rather than the biggest number that fits. A five or six-piece set seats a family and a couple of guests. Larger sets are for regular gatherings, and they need clearance behind each seat to be comfortable rather than crowded.
Cushions and covers
Look for removable, machine-washable cushion covers. They are the part that fails first, and being able to wash them adds seasons to a set. Waterproof furniture covers matter more in a yard without a covered patio.
